Final Project
With the variety of colours and photographs from the midterm project, I decided to expand on this by creating a collage shaped into the map of the United States. I really enjoyed the overall process of pasting together the images in order to create certain shapes, and I also really like how the range of colours presented itself in the final result. With the range of colours and patterns presented from the photographs of nature, the combinations almost create an abstract like effect to the collage. Additionally, the overall process really reminded me of solving a puzzle with the photographs as the pieces. For the original project I wanted to highlight the theme of capturing nature from its own perspective, but this time I aimed to highlight how nature is a major part of our lives hence creating an entire map of the country consisting of nature photographs. If only the state of Colorado had a more unique shape based on its borders, I definitely would’ve made a collage of that instead of doing the entire country however I am happy with how the end result turned out. The main challenge from this project was trying to fill in all the gaps of the outline since I was using all un-cropped, square images. Additionally, I wanted to make this collage more geometric rather than attempt to recreate the tiny bits of land sticking out. I personally think collages are a great way to recreate a work of art with photos, simply because there are so many options when it comes to what you can piece together from a collection of images. Additionally, thinking of another way to use or present photos is difficult enough - and collages turn that into an easy but unique creation. Overall, I am very satisfied with how this reconstruction turned out.
